Betty Mardelle (Reese) Hughes, age 83, of Florence, Indiana, entered this life on August 1, 1935, in Switzerland County, Indiana, the daughter of the late, J.C. and Ruth (Thomas) Reese. She was raised in Posey Township and was a 1954 graduate of the Patriot High School. Betty was united in marriage on May 16, 1959, at the Old Methodist Church in Patriot, Indiana, to the late, Ralph Hughes. This union was blessed with three daughters, Marlene, Marsha and Melissa. Betty was a Switzerland County 4-H Leader and attended the Quercus Grove United Methodist Church. Betty worked on the family farm alongside her husband and was a wonderful homemaker. Betty enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in the band, choir and sports and will be deeply missed by her loving family. Betty passed away at 10:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 4, 2018, at the Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Vevay, Indiana.Betty is survived by her daughters, Marlene Peters and her husband, Rick of Vevay, IN, Marsha Chase and her husband, Lawrence of Vevay, IN and Melissa Hughes of Vevay, IN; her grandchildren, Meghan Kaczmarek and her husband, Anthony of East Enterprise, IN, Kayla Nelson and her husband, Zac of Vevay, IN, Ashley Kitts and her husband, Chris of Vevay, IN and Lauren Chase of Vevay, IN; her great-grandchildren, Presley Kitts, Eli Nelson and Jimmy Kaczmarek; her sister, Billie Green and her husband, Galen of Vevay, IN; her brother, Chuck Reese of East Enterprise, IN and her several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, J.C. and Ruth (Thomas) Reese; her husband, Ralph Hughes, died April 20, 2003 and her sister, Myroleen Henry.Funeral services will be conducted Friday, December 7, 2018, at 1:00 p.m., by Rev. Mable Louise “Mickie” (Murray) McCalip, age 87, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on June 11, 1931, in Osgood, Indiana, and was the daughter of the late, Benjamin S. “Sockie” and Nora Marie (Rohlfing) Murray. She was raised in Indianapolis, Indiana and was a 1949 graduate of the Ben Davis High School. Mickie was united in marriage on September 2, 1951, in Osgood, Indiana, to the late, William Henry “Bill” McCalip. This happy union was blessed with three daughters, Tammie, Chris and Tina. Mickie and Bill shared 60 years of marriage together until he passed away on January 24, 2011. Mickie owned and operated the Versailles Laundromat for 18 years and the Vevay Bowling Alley for 20 years, retiring in March of 1998. Mickie and Bill owned and operated a farm in Ripley County, Indiana for many years. She was a life member of Job’s Daughters International. She served as a past mother advisor of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. Mickie joined the Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 333 and had served as Worthy Matron. She was a member of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 Ladies Auxiliary. Mickie was awarded the Grand Cross of Color 4-H Leader. Mickie was an avid bowler for over 60 years and bowled in five national tournaments of which she and her husband won 1st place in the GT-La Mode which was held in Columbus, Ohio (37 states were involved). Mickie was very proud of all her family. She enjoyed traveling, bowling, painting, sewing, music and meeting new people with a sense of humor of course! Mickie passed away at 3:35 p.m., Monday, December 3, 2018, at the St. Andrew Health Campus in Batesville, Indiana.Mickie will be deeply missed by her daughters, Tammie Spurlock and her husband, Ron of Rotonda West, FL and Tina Aubuchon and her husband, Michael of Twin Falls, ID; her grandchildren, Laurie Krieg and her husband, Dwight of Batesville, IN, Corey Lemen of Ft. Mrs. Hodges was born in Bulloch County on January 31, 1923, to the late Louis Holland Akins and Janie Fordham Akins. She was a homemaker, a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Blitchton and was very active in her Sunday school class. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hodges was preceded in death by her husband, James Dennis Hodges; son, James Donald Hodges; and daughter, Jeanette H. Shuman. Survivors include her daughters and a son-in-law, Wanda Sue Case of Pooler and Janie Denise and Ken Buckner of Ellabell; daughter-in-law, Kathy Hodges of Colonel’s Island; 10 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held 5-8 Tuesday, December 4, 2018, at the funeral home. The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2018, in the chapel of Flanders Morrison Funeral Home with the Rev. Darnell Barner officiating. Interment will follow in Red Hill Cemetery.
